I remember when we were kids living in Montgomery, Alabama on 15 Dickerson St., Uncle Herman and Uncle Jimmy lived with us.  All of us kids used to run to the door when someone would knock.  One night they played a joke on us.  Uncle Jimmy dressed up and he and Uncle Herman were laughing in the bedroom and then Uncle Herman let Uncle Jimmy out the backdoor and he went around the house and knocked on the front door.  As usual, we all ran to the door and opened it to find a red devil complete with horns!!!!!! We all scattered out every door we could find.  When mama caught up with Snuffy he was six blocks from the house and still running as hard as he could.  When mama got back Uncle Herman and Uncle Jimmy were still laughing at us.  Uncle Herman said, that will teach you kids to be so nosy, lol

Herman and I used to dance together all the time. When he lived with Joy and me, he and I went at least once a week to a little dance place. By the time the people there saw it was us, they would back off the dance floor and put the spot light on us. Could not believe someone deaf could dance and never miss a beat of the music. I asked him how he could do that. He said he "felt" the music with his feet. Light as a feather, we danced slow and fast and everyone loved it!!!!  It was as if we were one person being able to know what the next step would be. It was a very good time in my HALL OF MEMORIES of my gentle giant brother...Joy and I both have always loved him so. The others too, of course, but Herman lived with us on several occasions and we seemed to be closer, obviously sharing time together.. I also remember when he brought his love Jackie, up to meet us for the first time. I knew from the start, something special was happening to Herman. He was totally smitten. Truly I felt like it was a match created in Heaven for the both of them. I have always adored Jackie, in part maybe, because she made Herman so very happy, so complete... He had had "puppy love" before but something made me know this was the true love of Herman's life. He was totally miserable when she was not around. When he came without her once or twice, first thing in the door after hugging and such, he would immediately say, "call Jackie" and of course I did. I am so blessed to have had him as a brother for nearly 70 years and as time goes on, I pray Jackie can feel blessed by the time they were together too. Some people never met someone like they did that totally made them complete. I am so thankful Jackie is a part of our life and always will be. I love you all, my new found brother and sister, Brent and Barbara... 3/8/2014

Herman, Mom and I would spend hours completing the daily crossword puzzles in the newspaper.  Usually we’d complete it throughout the day.  Herman always knew the hard words that I never heard. I will miss the little things, but I’ll think of you every time I try to complete the puzzle. Brent

Tons of memories getting my butt beat. You always gave me that slight smile when you left me no shot and you always made me feel like I had a chance to beat you, but I rarely did. I will remember our great times everytime I play. I love and miss you. Brent
